Dani Alves completes Sao Paulo’s move after leaving Paris Saint-Germain

Sao Paulo have confirmed the signing of former Paris Saint-Germain star and Brazilian star Dani Alves.
Alves has signed a deal with the Brazilian giants until December 2022, it was announced on Thursday.
The 36-year-old – who first moved to Europe in 2002, joined Sevilla from Bahia – was a free agent following his departure from PSG after two years with Ligue 1 champions.
Alves had been linked with the former Barcelona and Premier League club, however, the veteran has decided to return home to Brazil while watching the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
“Daniel Alves is an example of what this management looks like for Sao Paulo – one of the world’s leading players and recognized for his great professionalism, fierce resolve and his relentless thirst for titles and victories,” club president Carlos Augusto de Barros e Silva said in a statement.
“He is also a very active citizen and very passionate about our country. So, Sao Paulo, he gets every step of the way.
“One day I told Daniel he was coming to play in Sao Paulo, his heart club. Today I’m very happy and proud to have kept that promise.”
Alves took Brazil to the Copa America glory on home soil in July – picking up his career of avoiding 40 trophies.
The transfer was announced in a video on Sao Paulo’s Twitter account, while the defender expressed his excitement about returning to his native country playing for the club he supported as a child.
“I would have taken any other team to play,” Alves said. “But I chose to return to Brazil, my country, to my people. For the club I love.
“Not really, but I’m here!”
Sao Paulo also posted on Twitter that Alves would wear the number 10 jersey at his new club.
